Asthma study appointment #1

During my pregnancy i took part in an asthma study to see if it is hereditary, environment or freak of nature thing.

Today was the Trip's 6 month post birth appointment, they aren't 6 months old till November but i wanted to get in early & 2 weeks doesn't make that much difference.
Very happy to report that Tahlia & James were given the all clear, not too sure about Aleah. She had a bronc. episode about 6 weeks ago, her breathing is still a little wet with some rattles. Just need to watch her & make a GP trip if i think its getting worse. Pead. is going to give her the once over next month.

Our NICU ride

After being born way to early, we needed a little help to make it in the big wide world. With the help of many Dr.'s & Nurses we made it. In total we spent 7 weeks or 49 days in hospital with around the clock care from many many people including Mum & Dad.

Although our NICU ride was an easy one compared to come of our Prem friends, Mum & Dad still had a hard time leaving us every day. We needed some help to breath, learn to suck & be able to feed from a bottle before Mum & Dad could take us home.

At 7 weeks old and 35+3 weeks we were discharged from hospital after spending 2 nights staying on the ward with Mum & Dad, they didnt sleep much for those two nights after feeding us every 3 hours.

What a weekend - A Triplet birth story

After finding out on 4th December 2008 that i was pregnant was a little shock to the system & than to find out on the 15th December 2008 that we were having Triplets was an evan bigger shock to the system.

Fast forward to 15th May 2009. I dont remember what time it was but i know it was after 4pm cause i'd just spoken to my brother & he was home from school.

I started getting a few pains & they were a little more than i had had the last 2 times id gone into pre term labour. I rang the hospital to see what they'd like me to do. Standard answer of 'Come in, bring your bags & we'll see whats going on'. Ok, done deal & off we go.
I had gone into labour for the 3rd time since 18 weeks. They kept me over night for observation. During the night, nothing happened so i was sent home at 9am. Got home had a shower put my PJ's on & went to bed for 4hrs. Woke up at 2pm, watched TV, ate dinner & went back to bed.

7am Sunday 17th May 2009.
I woke up as normal with really bad pain in my hips, wriggled out of bed with DF still asleep. Had a shower to heat up my hips so i could move a little easier but also got stuck in the shower. Went back to bed at about 7.40am, woke DF up to rub cream into my hips, by this point i was in tears from the pain & had panadine. Waited till 8am, pain was not moving & tummy was making crazy shapes. This time i knew something was really up. I rang the hospital to see what they wanted me to do. Answer was 'If L is home get him to drive you, dont speed & bring your bags'. So off we go again. Keep in mind we'd been home for a whole 24hrs & just wanted to stay there.

We got to the hospital at around 8.30am. Nurse comes in does the standard of CTG for heart beats & measure contractions. OB Reg comes in, says things arent really moving. Thats what i asked if i could stay till i delivered cause i feel safer as DF works nights & thats when most things happen. Shock horror, they agreed. Around 12noon, i was moved to the ward. Luke & I sat & chilled on the ward for a bit while we waited for my room.

2.30pm comes around still chilling, contractions decide to come again. This time harder & faster than ever before!! Did not like it at all. Buzzed the nurses & 2 of them come running. One rang my 2nd OB who says to get her back to delivery ASAP. Back on the CTG this time contraction are really coming. I was in tears from the pain. Give me a morphine drip, waited half hour to see what happens & if they stop. No such luck.
OB comes back with approval for an emergency c-section if need be, i signed in 5 seconds flat!
Mean time, morphine hadnt done anything other than make me a little sleepy but i couldnt sleep.
5.15pm comes around, we'd all come to the decision it was 'D-Day!' & to go now before contraction get any closer. Fine by me, i wanted them to stop ASAP!.

5.30pm i was wheeled into Theater Prep. Catheter in, Knock out man does his thing. I honestly dont remember much.

At 5.45pm i was wheeled into theater to finished prep, by this time i was starting freak out & sucking back the Oxygen like no ones business!
At 5.55pm i was given the General.
At 5.59pm Tahlia May was born, at 6pm Aleah Rose, followed their brother James Lucas at 6.01pm.

Daddy followed them to NICU, while i went to recovery.

And thats the story of how our Triplets made it into the world at 28.3 weeks.
They are now in Level 3 NICU & doing just about everything on their own.

It was a long & hard road but we all made it.

We are so proud of them & extramly proud to be their parents.
